Mission
BCPEP serves as a natural extension of Boston College鈥檚 deeply held commitment to academic excellence and the improvement of the human condition.
BCPEP's Goal
Providing high-quality educational opportunities to students who very likely would not otherwise have access to them is reflective of the long Jesuit tradition of service to incarcerated populations. BCPEP provides educational opportunities that are very much in keeping with Boston College鈥檚 broader missions relating to affirming the value of a strong liberal arts education, and to addressing complex societal challenges while simultaneously seeking to contribute to the common good.

Commitment to high quality education and service to others
From the Provost
“The Boston College Prison Education Program draws on a centuries-long history of Jesuit educators working with the incarcerated. Now in its fifth year, I am proud of how this mission-driven Program brings the transformative power of a Boston College liberal arts education to students at MCI-Shirley. Having taught in the Program, I know first-hand just how powerful the experience has been for students and faculty alike.”
